BioFuture Workshop in Malaysia

The transition of our society from a fossil-based economy to a bio-based economy is a challenging task, which makes an international cooperation necessary. Only on an international level, bioeconomy strategies can be successful in the long term. One building block for a promising bioeconomy is the development of innovative and novel bioplastics and biocomposites. To reduce the dependence on fossil resources and to promote sustainable production of plastics and composites from renewable resources, the Institute for Bioplastics and Biocomposites (IfBB), University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Hannover, Germany in collaboration with the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) is organizing a workshop on ‘Bioplastics and Biocomposites - Innovative Building Blocks of the emerging bioeconomy’, which will involve technical presentations on different aspects of plastics and composites from renewable resources. The workshop will also have a ‘Industry-University interactive session’ on circular and bio-based economy for a sustainable future, addressing different aspects like how to mitigate the effect of plastic pollution, potential of bio-based economy, challenges and  alternative solutions for a sustainable future. This workshop will serve as a platform for the bioeconomy industry, universities and research institutions to exchange information and identify the problems and research areas, which will then result in a potential collaboration for implementing these ideas as part of joint application under Horizon 2020, which is the biggest Research and Innovation programme in the European Union. The goal of this workshop is to develop a long-term network and knowledge transfer between the industries and institutions from Malaysia and India with Germany in the field of bioplastics and biocomposites.
